Working on board can be a fantastic experience!

However, take a step back and try to imagine yourself in the following situation and if you can visualize yourself in this place, and you have the qualifications and experience for the role you wish to apply for, get in touch, as we would love to hear from you!

Depending on your position, contracts can be anything between 4 to 8 months. You will work long hours – 10 to 14 hours a day, 7 days a week. Accommodation for crew can often be in very small cabin spaces, most positions require that you share your cabin with one or two other Crew Members, but long-lasting friendships are often made, and interacting with people from different parts of the world is something Crew Members truly value.

Most cabins are situated on one of the lower decks and they do not have windows. You will be at sea in all types of weather and although its true that you’ll ‘get your sea legs’ its possible that you could suffer sea-sickness. Crew cabins are small, but functional and are equipped with a toilet and shower. Each room has a television, DVD player and a mini-refrigerator. Other cabin amenities include lockable safes for securing personal items, in-room wireless internet at a reduced cost for Crew, and a cupboard for storing clothing and costumes.

So…

  • Be prepared to learn, because you’re going to learn things that you never knew before.
  • Don’t keep to yourself. You have to speak to other Crew Members because eventually they will become your family.
  • Be flexible. The schedule can change at any time, and surprises tend to happen.
  • Don’t come onboard with preconceived ideas of what to expect, because it is something completely different than whatever you were used to before.

You need to be…

  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Able to obtain a valid passport and United States C1/D visas.
  • Willing to commit to at least a 6-month contract.
  • Able to work a 7-day, 70-hour week with limited time-off during your contract.
  • Experienced in the job you are applying for, with at least 2 years recent and related job experience, but not necessarily with a cruise line.
  • Flexible with your work schedule, job duties and job locations.
  • Willing to share a cabin.
  • Guest focused.
  • Appreciative of diversity among Guests and Crew.
  • Eager to work in a high-volume, fast-paced Guest service environment.

"One of the greatest challenges is living with the people you work with. There’s no going home at the end of the day. It requires a lot of energy and effort to keep things evenly balanced between work and play.”

“I’ve done five summers working as a server back home. When I came onboard, I realized that where I used to work has got nothing to do with how things work here. I had the experience, but I considered myself new in the field.”

“Learning how to manage downtime is really important. Thankfully, there’s a lot of Crew activities and events to help us unwind.”
